Eyeliner for Monolids

A monolid is defined by having one flat eyelid as opposed to a separation of two lid spaces with a creases in the center. Not to be confused with a hooded eyelid where your upper lid folds over your lower lid. Finding the right shape and type of eyeliner for a monolid can be a bit tricky so I am going to provide you with a little bit of guidance to help you find your way. Typically individuals with monolids tend to have smaller eyes and therefore the vast majority of eyeliner examples are winged liner since the wing tends to pull the eye out giving the illusion of a larger eye base. Though winged liner may be the go-to look for a moonlid, it is not the only look possible. What you have to keep in mind is that the eyeliner has to be quite a bit thicker than the average in order to show up on monolids. You can stop the liner where your eye stops or you can wing it out, but in either scenario, a thin line simply won’t do. Making your liner 3x’s thicker than on other eye shapes is a great general rule to follow and as long as you keep that in mind, you can use any color and create any shape that you’d like. If you have monolids, be sure to use a waterproof eyeliner. Not water resistant, but a true waterproof (usually found best in gel form and applied with a brush). This is because the under eye on a person with monolids is typically flat or slightly protruding which causes the upper lid to touch and allows any non-waterproof liner to transfer to your under eye. So go thick and go waterproof . You surely won’t be disappointed.

Bumps, Bruises, and Photoshop

While we don’t recommend taking up snowboarding or doing a mud run the week before your session with Belle Boudoir, it is inevitable that many of us have bumps, bruises, and/or scars that we don’t want to highlight in our photos. It’s life. And if you are living it you typically have proof somewhere on your body. But there is no need to worry when you have the pros at Belle Boudoir behind you. Truth is, it takes a little bit of effort from the whole team to create those flawlessly sexy images you see on our website, Pinterest page, and Instagram account. Our makeup artist Nikoma, owner and photographer Cheryl, and retoucher Sarah will each do their part to ensure that your skin looks it’s absolute best while still ensuring it looks like yours, naturally. Just remember that communication is key! If you don’t want to show the scar on your knee from playing soccer in high school, let us know so that we can work with you to make that happen. With great communication and superb talent you will be sure to love every square inch of your boudoir images.  Bumps, Bruises, and Photoshop

Acne Scarring and Your Photoshoot

Let’s face it, not everyone was born blessed with flawless skin free of dry patches, large pores, pesky chin hairs, or acne. For clients with acne scarring, being photographed for a special event like a wedding or boudoir session for that matter, can be a sensitive topic. We often get questions about what can be done to ensure they get that flawless “just stepped out of a skincare commercial.” This blog is dedicated to all of you.

Creating flawless in your photographs is a combination of a few things; makeup, lighting, and post production (AKA photoshop). It will start in makeup where your makeup artist will chat with you about your skin type, what you like about it, what you don’t, and the type of finish you are looking for. Don’t worry if you aren’t entirely sure because your artist can ask you a few simple questions to help you determine the answers to those questions and then expertly apply the perfect combination of lotions and potions to create a visibly smoother and more even skin tone. Next, comes lighting; a specialty of owner and photographer Cheryl Jones. She has perfected how to manipulate lighting to makeup not only your body look it’s absolutely best, but your skin also. Once Cheryl has finished with your session, your images move on to post production where every detail will be looked over. The scars and discoloration you don’t want are taken away and the bits that you do want – such as that scar on your knee from falling off your bike as a kid – is left right where it should be. So do what you can: exfoliate, moisturize, and drink plenty of water. We will take care of the rest.

Teeth Whitening Without the Dentinst

By now you have heard the buzz about active charcoal and all of the detoxifying benefits of taking it internally. But, have you heard that you can use active charcoal as an at-home teeth whitening treatment? Well, you can and people are absolutely raving about the results. The same way that activated charcoal works internally by binding to all the chemicals that we need to detox from, it works in the mouth. The aactivated charcoal is a loose black powder that is odorless and tasteless. You create a paste using a small amount of water and the loose charcoal (it typically comes in capsule format). Apply the past liberally to your toothbrush and use gentle circular motions for three minutes on your teeth. The super binding power of the activated charcoal will cause plaque and other stains to adhere to charcoal and will wash away with you rinse your mouth thoroughly after the three minutes of scrubbing are up.

In a few reports I have read that if you have dental implants or other dental work, it is possible that the charcoal will temporarily stain the dental work and it has been knows to temporarily stain a sink or two as well. So, take precaution before diving in. Do your research to decided if it is the right home treatment for you. But if it is the right treatment, it is all natural, super safe, and according to studies it is also very affective. Happy Whitening!
