Trying new products

One thing I always recommend when gearing up for a big event, such as a photoshoot with Belle Boudoir, is to *never* try any new products within one week of your big day. This would include everything from face wash and serums to shampoo and body wash. Many of us have sensitivities and/or allergies to ingredients we aren’t yet aware of, or we are aware but the ingredients can be lurking in small amounts inside your new body exfoliator or warm brown eyeshadow (red lake #40 is a big one!). And trust me, the last thing you want is a red rash all the way down your neck and back from a new shampoo! So stick to the tried and true and save the new products for after your big day!

Sleep

Today I am going to let you in on one of the biggest secrets to preparing for an incredible session at Belle Boudoir: SLEEP. Getting a solid eight hours every night does more than make you feel rested, it also helps you look better. Literally. Studies have shown that during stages 3 & 4 of the R.E.M. cycle, your body produces more cells, stimulates collagen production, and increases your cell turnover rate. In fact, studies have pointed to 2am being the peak time for division of the bodies cells. Your skin is literally renewing and rejuvenating while you sleep. Getting enough sleep also temporarily reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the face and neck. So the next time you think about skipping your beauty sleep, think again.

Strong and Beautiful

Ms. L. met her husband 8 years ago while serving overseas. He described her as strong and beautiful. He was intimidated by Ms. L and didn’t know how to approach her but there was one thing he was sure of: he HAD to talk to her. So he did what any enamored young man would do and started making up excuses to cross paths. Since Ms. L was a mechanic, he would pretend that something was wrong with his truck in order to talk to her. He was persistent and it paid off! The couple has now been married for 7 years. They have a beautiful 4 year old daughter and another little girl on the way.

After hearing about what an incredible experience two friends of theirs had had during their sessions at Belle Boudoir, the couple decided that a maternity shoot with us was the perfect way to memorialize their two little girls and Ms. L’s second pregnancy. We couldn’t have agreed more. We had a great time in the studio with the whole family and loved the extra energy the little one brought along. Here is one Mother & Daughter portrait from their session. We love it, don’t you?!

Deep Conditioning

Tuesday Tip: Deep conditioning your hair the night before your session at Belle Boudoir is never a bad idea. It will add moisture and shine while increasing strength and manageability. Below are a few of my favorite restorative hair masks:

Waxing

Are you planning to get waxed before your session with Belle Boudoir? If so, make sure that you allow at least 2 days for your skin to calm before you come in. Often times waxing causes varying levels of redness and irritation that you want to rid prior to your appointment.

For more sensitive skin, your esthetician can recommend a topical treatment to help speed up the healing process.

In the mean time – Wax On!
